What is Pilates?
Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by its founder Joseph Pilates over the course of a lifetime dedicated to improving physical and mental health.
Pilates focuses on building your body's core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises.
Core strength focuses on improving the strength of the back, abdominal and pelvic muscles. Through Pilates, you will be able to develop these muscles without adding bulk, increasing your flexibility and agility and at the same time toning your stomach and thigh muscles.
Pilates goes far beyond your core muscles however and not only provides a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn't even know you had!), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.
Who benefits from Pilates?
Basically everyone ranging from children to seniors, even during pregnancy! Pilates offers a choice of activities from rehabilitation to a method of balancing the body to increase flexibility and tone; strength and conditioning; and sports or occupation specific training.

About Vera
Many start doing Pilates because they have reached 'a certain age', realised they no longer take exercise and suddenly thought, 'I must start doing some- thing, or else I'll fall apart'.
Pilates is all about subtlety, thoughtfulness and moving at one’s own pace in a quiet and peaceful setting. Clients feel a sense of well-being as one of the main benefits of Pilates. It is also beneficial for the rehabilitation of injuries.
Pilates can be tailored to suit each person, whatever their age or physical condition.
Most Pilates exercises are low-impact and partially weight-bearing, which is good for the prevention of osteoporosis. The gentle routines build strength and improve posture, improved muscle flexibility, agility and balance. Stretching and strengthening of the core muscles through Pilates is a very good way of warding off the effects of aging. Pilates is both a safe and effective workout.
Apart from the physical benefits, Pilates is also helpful in providing relief from stress and tension. There are several ailments associated with age like back pain, joint pain, etc. and Pilates can not only provide relief but it can also increase spinal and joint strength to avoid these problems.
Doctors often recommend Pilates for anyone to help maintain good physical health. The best aspect of Pilates is that it is not difficult or stressful as a normal workout. When beginning, one’s own strength and stamina will control how far one can go with each exercise. The goal is the general improvement of health.
Pilates is more about mental control over the body. The first thing I teach in Pilates instruction is how to control breathing, balance, muscles, and eventually, how to control the coordination between all these.
The Pilates exercise can help anyone achieve good health, vitality at any age.
